Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-80 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-88 (TTY 1-80). The recall is expected to begin October 2, 2020. Owners who have replaced the fuel pump at their own expense prior to the recall notification may be eligible for reimbursement. Dealers will replace the fuel pump(s) with an improved version, free of charge. Owners will be notified by First Class mail and instructed to take their motorcycle to an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer to have the remedy performed. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. The NHTSA recall report states that a cracked fuel pump flange may result in a fuel leak while the engine is running. Vehicles that received the earlier recall remedy, which did not have a fuel pump replacement at a later date, may have a fuel pump flange that cracks and possibly leaks overtime. According to the defect report, motorcycles involved previously received a support ring repair under a 2014 recall number 13V-617, which also dealt with a potential leak at the fuel pump. This safety recall involves the fuel pump, and potentially the auxiliary fuel pump as well.
